Fluid–structure interaction analysis of a patient-specific right coronary artery with physiological velocity and pressure waveforms

چکیده
Coupled fluid–structure interaction (FSI) analysis of the human right coronary artery (RCA) has been carried out to investigate the effects of wall compliance on coronary hemodynamics. A 3-D model of a stenosed RCA was reconstructed based on multislice computerized tomography images. A velocity waveform in the proximal RCA and a pressure waveform in the distal RCA of a patient with a severe stenosis were acquired with a catheter delivered wire probe and applied as boundary conditions. The arterial wall was modeled as a Mooney–Rivlin hyperelastic material. The predicted maximum wall displacement (3.85mm) was comparable with the vessel diameter (∼4mm), but the diameter variation was much smaller, 0.134mm at the stenosis and 0.486mm in the distal region. Comparison of the computational results between the FSI and rigid-wall models showed that the instantaneous wall shear stress (WSS) distributions were affected by diameter variation in the arterial wall; increasing systolic blood pressure dilated the vessel and consequently lowered WSS, whereas the opposite occurred when pressure started to decrease. However, the effects of wall compliance on time-averaged WSS (TAWSS) and oscillatory shear index (OSI) were insignificant (4.5 and 2.7% difference in maximum TAWSS and OSI, respectively). Numerical Investigation of Angulation Effects in Stenosed Renal Arteries
Background: Numerical study of angulation effects of renal arteries on blood flow has been of great interest for many researchers. Objective: This paper aims at numerically determining the angulation effects of stenosed renal arteries on blood flow velocity and renal mass flow.Method: An anatomically realistic model of abdominal aorta and renal arteries is reconstructed from CT-scan images and u...
متن کاملDifferences in cardiac microcirculatory wave patterns between the proximal left mainstem and proximal right coronary artery.
Despite having almost identical origins and similar perfusion pressures, the flow-velocity waveforms in the left and right coronary arteries are strikingly different. We hypothesized that pressure differences originating from the distal (microcirculatory) bed would account for the differences in the flow-velocity waveform. We used wave intensity analysis to separate and quantify proximal- and d...
متن کاملA novel framework for fluid/structure interaction in rapid subject-specific simulations of blood flow in coronary artery bifurcations.
BACKGROUND/AIM Practical difficulties, particularly long model development time, have limited the types and applicability of computational fluid dynamics simulations in numerical modeling of blood flow in serial manner. In these simulations, the most revealing flow parameters are the endothelial shear stress distribution and oscillatory shear index. The aim of this study was analyze their role ...
متن کاملMeasuring the Nitroglycerine-Induced Vasodilation in Carotid Arteries
Introduction: Nitroglycerin is a fast-acting drug that rapidly dilates coronary arteries and thus increases blood flow to these vessels, and increases the blood flow through the lateral vessels to low blood areas. It also reduces both end diastolic pressure and volume of the left ventricular. However, the effect of nitroglycerin on the circulation hemodynamic is not known. Caro...
متن کاملApproach to Chronic Secondary Headache: A Case report on Unusual Drug Side Effects
In this article, we present the case of a 12-year-old female child who complained of bilateral temporal and frontal headache for 2 to 3 months with nausea and vomiting. Physical examination revealed right-sided sixth cranial nerve palsy and papilledema in ophthalmoscopy. To find the cause of increased intracranial pressure, the patient underwent brain imaging and brain MRI showed no abnormality...
